What does LWA mean when it says:

"Edit not possible, the opened site is not the selected document"

I have saved a large to the archive. I want to edit it the page to remove the ads that LWA also saved. So I go to the LWA archive, select the page, try to "Edit Text". But I get this message.

Some pages are available for edit, maybe half, but many give this strange message. I have absolutely no idea what it means.

Well, has anyone else seen this behaviour?

Can I fix it?

Local Website Archive checks if the page in the internal browser corresponds to the selected page in the document list. If they don't match, you get this message.

This can happen when you use the browser back command to open a previous page and try to start the edit mode then.

This makes no sense. Why would I hit the "back" key when saving pages.

I suspect that there may be another explanation that is down to how LWA fails to recognise pages properly.

When I want to save a page, I try to grab the "Printer friendly" version.

Sometimes when I grab the page LWA ignores this and goes and gets the first version I found. Then when I see a page in the LWA screen I hit the "Print" button.

This does not always work. But sometimes it does. Perhaps this is what causes this behaviour.

If so, then it makes LWA much less useful than I had thought.

There are times when LWA still will not show the "Printer Friendly" version. In those cases I usually print to Acrobat.

If LWA makes it hard to edit saved pages to remove adverts and rubbish, maybe I should do this to all the pages that I want to save.

The explanation in my previous post is a known way to get this message. I personally don't know another way to get this message.

If these steps are not the reason in your case, then please provide exact steps to reproduce this problem...

Try saving this page:

http://www.siliconfenbusiness.com/index.php?articleid=443

Then try to edit it. See what happens.

I have done this in Firefox and Internet Explorer. I also grabbed it within LWA. Same result.

I went nowhere near the back button.

I had no problems with archiving and editing that page.

Please supply exact steps to reproduce that problem...

I think I have worked out the cause of the problem. It has npothing to do with "back" buttons.

The pages I could not edit were in a folder called "R&D". This is a widely used term

I can edit nothing in that folder.

If I change the name to "RandD" or "R+D" then I can edit the pages.

I found this by saving the link I posted into a different folder and then editing it. It worked. So I changed the name of the R&D folder and that worked too.

It seems that LWA will not let you edit pages when it sees "&" in the folder name.

I have just confirmed this by renaming another folder to add an "&".

I realise that Windows does things with the "&" symbol, but this is the first time that it has had such a strange effect on software.

Thanks for the info, "&" in the folder name is the culprit in that case. Will be fixed in the next version....

You are welcome.

That seems to me to be really strange behaviour on the part of Windows. Not the sort of thing that you can easily detect!

It was your suggestion that made me carry out the experiments that got it to work and pinned down the problem.

I wonder if there are any other characters that cause it to barf.

a blank, but it is already handled correctly in LWA.
