By default, WebSite-Watcher replaces all images of a page with a local, grey graphic. That's the most efficient way to check and open web pages. Alternatively to these ugly, grey boxes which are displayed instead of the images, you can also download and display the images of a page. The image configuration can be changed in the general program settings. For each bookmark, the global image configuration can be overridden in the bookmark properties.
WebSite-Watcher supports the following three options to download or display images:
Display grey boxes instead of images (fastest)
If this option is enabled, all images will be replaced with a local, grey image (GIF file). This option is the fastest solution, no images of the page are downloaded and displayed.
Use absolute addresses for all images
If this option is enabled, all image addresses will be converted to absolute addresses. As soon as you open a locally saved page, the images will be downloaded from the server and displayed in your browser. This option requires an active internet connection when you open the checked pages, otherwise the images won't be displayed.
Save images to disk
If this option is enabled, WebSite-Watcher downloads images as soon as an update is detected. The images are stored locally on your hard disk. You don't need an active internet connection when you open the locally saved pages.
There are some additional settings to optimize the image configuration.
Always download all images
If this option is enabled, WebSite-Watcher will always download all images instead of only new images. Choose this option if changed images have always the same filename.
Filter images from other domains
This option won't download images from other domains and replace them with a local, grey image. Often some kind of AD or user counter are hosted on other domains.
Filter banner by dimensions
This option won't download images with a typical, predefined size and replace them with a local, grey image.
Only filter banner by dimensions from other domains
If this option is enabled, then images with a predefined size won't be downloaded when they are hosted on another domain.
