Status- and Error messages
The status column in the bookmark list displays the result of the last check. If there was an error, the status is displayed in blue.
- OK
If "OK" is displayed, then the check was successful. OK can also be displayed in combination with other infos and warnings.
If at least one of the following messages appear in the status column in combination with the "OK" message, then the page could be checked correctly, but you could probably optimize some settings.
- Initialized
When a bookmark is checked the first time, it gets initialized. WebSite-Watcher downloads the page and collects all data which are necessary to detect updates with each further check.
- Warning: Frameset
The checked page has a frameset and WebSite-Watcher must download all frames which are defined in that frameset. That slows down the check, and mostly you are only interested in a specific frame instead of all frames of the frameset. It is only a warning and indicates that it would be more efficient when you check only the frame you are interested in. On the other side it doesn't really matter if that's not possible and you check the whole frameset. This warning can be turned off in the bookmark properties.
- Redirection
A redirection happens when you enter an URL into your browser and it redirects to another page. That means that the address in the URL field of your browser is changed automatically. If that happens in WebSite-Watcher, this warning message is displayed.
- Warning download size
A typical web page has an approximately size between 10 and 50 KB. If WebSite-Watcher checks and downloads a page with a very large file size (for example 1 MB), it could be possible that the page redirects to a binary file which would be handled as normal web page then. If the transferred amount of data is larger that a predefined size (entered in the general option) you get such a warning. Then you can decide if you are checking an unwanted file or if the page has really such a large size. Please note that this is only a warning which won't abort the check.
- Skipped
The bookmark was not checked due to some time restrictions in the bookmark properties. The reason why the bookmark was skipped is displayed in brackets. You can use "Check Bookmarks (Extended options)" to check such a bookmark.
- Disabled
The bookmark has been disabled with the "Don't check" option (bookmark properties). You can use "Check Bookmarks (extended options)" to check disabled bookmarks.
If at least one of the following messages appear in the status column, then the page could not be checked.
- Warning: whole content filtered (please verify your filter settings)
Normally WebSite-Watcher compares the filtered textual content of the new version with the filtered textual content of the old version of a page. If the whole content is filtered, then WebSite-Watcher has nothing to compare and is not able to detect updates. In such a case this error message is displayed. Open the bookmark properties and verify/change your filter settings to fix that behavior. With the feature "Test filter" you can see the content which is compared to detect updates.

- Redirection failed
This message indicates that WebSite-Watcher was redirected to another URL, but for some reasons WebSite-Watcher could not follow to the new address. In that case you should open the URL in your browser and use the address of the browser's URL field after the page has been loaded completely.
- Redirection via HTML commands not followed
A special technique of redirections can be defined in the source code of a HTML page. These redirections are supported, but not enabled by default. If that message appears, you can try to change the bookmark URL to the address of the redirected page, or you enable HTML redirections in the bookmark properties. In rare circumstances HTML redirections are required, for example when a static URL of a News page redirects with that technique to an URL which contains the daily date.
- Page not available?
The page was not available when it has been checked. The question mark indicates that WebSite-Watcher is not absolutely sure if it is a permanent failure or if the page was temporarily not available.
- Access forbidden?
You need username and password to access the page. Normally a page is protected with Server Authentication if you receive this error message. In that case you can enter username and password in the bookmark properties. See also chapter Server Authentication.
- Timeout
The page could not be checked within the given time frame. This can happen when a page is temporarily not available or when you check a large page which cannot be transferred within the given time. The timeout value can be changed in the general program settings or individually for each bookmark in the bookmark properties.
- Error: Page or file not found
The page was not available for an unknown reason. For example due to server problems, problems of your provider, etc.
- Connection refused
There was an error while connecting to the page.
- Error: protocol
The protocol of the entered bookmark is not supported.
